Councilmember Jay Batt Endorsed by PANO, ACORN

(April 6) New Orleans City Councilmember Jay Batt today garnered the endorsements of PANO, the Police Association of New Orleans and ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Action Now. In making their endorsements, both organizations cited Council Member Batt's dedication and leadership on the Council.

"Your commitments to the needs of law enforcement have proven that you are dedicated to improving the New Orleans Police Department. Your years serving the city will only enhance what is already in place. PANO looks to the future with promises of a new beginning for this city and, what you will do to make New Orleans a better place to live, work and raise a family," said David M. Benelli, President of the Police Association of New Orleans.

"ACORN Political Action Committee members are pleased to announce their support for Councilmember Jay Batt for District A. ACORN members in the Carrollton-Hollygrove communities have been working with Councilmember Batt on establishing a police substation for the area and a variety of other neighborhood concerns," said Joe Sherman, Carrollton-Hollygrove ACORN chairperson. "Councilmember Batt has been a leader since Katrina in supporting all residents of District A in their efforts to rebuild their homes and lives. We would like to thank Councilmember Batt for always taking the time to meet with ACORN members and look forward to working together in the future."

"I am honored by the diverse groups of citizens that have stepped up to support my re-election to the New Orleans City Council District A seat. I am proud of my leadership in repealing the residency requirement for police, firefighters and other city employees and my efforts to work with community leadership to solve our housing problems and strengthen our neighborhoods as we rebuild," said Councilmember Batt. "Over the next four years, I will be proud to work with both PANO and ACORN on finding common ground and solutions to the problems we face in New Orleans."

These prominent organizations in New Orleans join the diverse group who has endorsed Councilmember Batt including the Alliance for Good Government, the Forum for Equality and the Regular Democratic Organization.
